FROM THE DESK OF THE HARBOR IMPACT MINISTRIES DIRECTOR
We have literally been under water in the Harbor in April! Our Trustees leapt into action immediately. They have pumped, sumped and unclumped (the ditch drain) twice. As a result, we anticipate being fully ready for Impact Day on April 30th.
In March 2013 we served 420 families totaling 1214 people. On April 9th from the Mobile Food Truck we served 258 families.
Mid-City Nutrition/The Soup Kitchen and the Harbor collaborated on a food truck on April 9th. Only food and information were distributed on that day. Our volunteers enjoyed being a part of this "different" approach to service delivery.
There is a marked increase in the numbers at our Special Needs Impact Day. We are going to have to gear up a bit to effectively handle these numbers. If you are able to assist on the Monday afternoon prior to Impact Day, our "weary" team could use some reinforcements!
We are experiencing a dramatic increase in the numbers of guests referred from the Department of Human Services, Community Mental Health and the Salvation Army.
We have been given a large number of drug store over-the-counter surplus items by the Food Bank of East Michigan at no cost. We will continue to distribute those at our April Impact Day.
Harbor Impact Ministries will be a "vendor" at the Community Resources Fair on May 15th at the St. Clair Community College. This is an excellent opportunity to interact with all other St. Clair County agencies working with people in need. Barb Hanneke, Denise Bishop, and Rennea Dorcy will man (woman) the booth.
Please keep the Harbor in your daily prayers. We are touching people each day who are enduring circumstances that most of us can’t even imagine. The Lord has placed us in their lives. May His love for them be evident in all that we do.
~ Barb Hanneke
